Ius Omnibus Press Release on Class action against Google

LISBON, PORTUGAL – SEPTEMBER 3, 2025 – The Lisbon District Court admitted the class action brought by Ius Omnibus against Google (Alphabet Inc., Google LLC, Google Ireland Limited, and GGLE Portugal) in March this year. After the Public Prosecutor’s Office moved to have the action proceed, the Court ordered the Google group companies and the consumers represented in the action to be summoned.

Ius Omnibus is confident that this is a significant step forward in defending the rights of Portuguese consumers aged 13 and over who have been harmed by Google’s intrusive and unlawful collection and processing of their personal data, paving the way for them to have access to justice and compensation for the damage caused by Google’s practices.

Ius Omnibus’ lawsuit

Ius Omnibus filed a class action lawsuit against the tech giant to defend consumers aged 13 or older, residing in Portugal, against Google’s illegal practices.

Since March 1, 2012, Google has been collecting and processing the personal data of users of all its products and services, residing in Portugal, aged 13 or over, without their consent and without any other basis for the collection and processing of their personal data.

Over the years, Google has been harming consumers by collecting and processing their personal data on a massive and unlawful scale, by failing to adequately inform consumers about the purposes and operations of the processing of their personal data, the types of personal data it collects, uses, and shares with third parties, by transferring their personal data to the US without a valid basis and without taking adequate measures to ensure that consumers’ personal data benefits from a high level of protection, and by implementing misleading mechanisms that mislead consumers as to the scope and extent of the collection and processing of their personal data.

All consumers who are habitually resident in Portugal, aged 13 (thirteen) or over, who have used and/or use Google products and services after March 1, 2012, and who were aged 13 (thirteen) or over when they first used Google products and services or at a later date, are represented in this action by Ius Omnibus.
