On 24 June 2024, Ius Omnibus had the honour of participating in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the National Data Protection Commission (CNPD). This landmark event brought together various experts and representatives of organisations dedicated to data protection and privacy, reflecting on the achievements and future challenges in this crucial field.
Importance of Data Protection
The protection of personal data has become a fundamental pillar in the defence of citizens’ rights, especially in the digital age. The CNPD has played a vital role in promoting compliance with data protection regulations in Portugal, ensuring that individuals’ privacy rights are respected.
Participation by Ius Omnibus
Ius Omnibus, committed to the defence of consumer rights and the promotion of social justice, actively participated in the event. We took the opportunity to discuss relevant topics such as:
- Evolution of Data Protection Standards: Reflections on how European legislation, especially the GDPR, has positively influenced data protection.
- Current and Future Challenges: Identifying new threats to privacy and how we can address them effectively.
- International Collaboration: The importance of co-operation between different entities and countries to strengthen data protection at a global level.
Looking to the Future
Celebrating this milestone is not only an opportunity to commemorate past achievements, but also to reaffirm Ius Omnibus’ ongoing commitment to working alongside the CNPD and other organisations to ensure that the protection of personal data continues to evolve and adapt to new technological and social realities.
Acknowledgements
We thank the CNPD for the invitation and congratulate everyone involved for 30 years of dedication and excellence in data protection in Portugal. Together, we will continue to fight for a future where privacy and data protection are always prioritised.
